Jin Y'Fir, my Dark Elf Sorceress

This is the first model that I have painted from my new Dark Elf army. As it is a Character model, I have put extra effort into the paint job as these models always draw the most attention. While the main colour scheme of my army will be a deep red, I felt that I ndeeded to distinguish the Sorceress model somehow.

This is what the enemy will see!

I happened upon the skin colour by accident. Originally I was going for a very pale flesh tone, and started by darkening Snakebite Leather with Chaos Black. Blending up from this with Bleached Bone provided the skin colour you see here which, to my surprise, turned out very different than what I had originally envisioned. However, I really like the result. It gives her a dark, otherworldly, somewhat alien feel and as such I'll be using the same technique for the rest of the Elves.

Front Detail

As I said earlier, I wanted to distinguish the Sorceress from the rest of the army, but I also wanted to make her look like part of the same force. While the rest of the army is a force devoted to the Elven God Khaine, and will be painted deep red, the sect of Sorceresses is seperate from most of Dark Elf society and I wanted to reflect this difference between the cults visually. I kept the overall dark tone of the model by using Chaos Black for her cloak, and Liche Purple blended up from Chaos Black for the trim. Only the clothing hanging from her waist bears the colour of Khaine, which along with the basing technique helps to link her to the army as a whole. The finished effect helps her to stand out in the crowd, but still feel part of it.

Rear Detail

There wasn't a whole lot to do on the rear of the model, as it mostly consists of the cloak and her hair. Therefore most of it was Chaos Black except the trim on the cloak, which as I previously outlined was Liche Purple.

The basing technique I used was a simple one, as I like to make my bases simple yet effective so as not to take attention away from the model. Sand painted with Black Ink and drybrushed with a 50/50 mix of Chaos Black and Codex Grey, followed by a highlighting drybrush of Codex Grey gave the effect of harsh, rocky ground. Small patches of Static Grass were then added and the base was finished. A quick coat of Matte Varnish finished off the model and now it's ready for gaming!
