The other side of the Chariot |

|
This Chariot of Chaos is part of my Nurgle army, and therefore has the Mark of Nurgle. While this may not benefit the Chariot in the same way it would benefit a larger block of troops, it does give it the ability to better deal with Fear and Terror causing units or monsters, where it's impact hits can really cause some damage. Lesser units could also fear the Chariot in turn, and lessen the chances of damaging the Chariot with retaliatory attacks.

To make the Chariot a bit more unique, and to enhance the Nurglesque appearance, I decided to make my own crew from spare parts that I had from other kits. This crewman was made using parts from the Zombie regiment set, and is quite fitting to the Nurgle theme. Nurgle being the God of disease, decay and death, I chose to use parts that showed rotting flesh and exposed innards. As this individual is a Chaos Warrior rather than a mere Zombie, I chose to paint him as if he had been blessed by Nurgle himself, giving his skin a radiating green glow to it which, along with his repulsive appearance, could ward of an attacker as much as any suit of Chaos Armour!

His companion took the more traditional look of a Chaos Warrior, but with a slight twist. Not liking the default crew models, or the first range of Chaos Warrior plastics, I decided to use a spare Chaos Space Marine from Warhammer 40,000 that I had left over in my bits box. Using the swollen head from the Chaos Mutations sprue along with the arms and a scythe from the Zombie sprue to make the model look a bit more archaic, I feel that I have produced a model that was more fitting to my tastes. It also subtly shows my thoughts on the Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 universes not being entirely seperate...

And finally, onto the faithful Chaos Steeds that pull the Chariot to war. I chose to paint their barding in the same manner as the armour of my Chaos Warriors, keeping in line with the rusted, unkempt appearance of my force. Boltgun Metal with Black and Flesh washes made the dull, rusted look come alive. The Steeds themselves had to be black (no self-respecting Chaos Lord would use anything but black!), which was highlighted by a 50/50 mix of Chaos Black and Codex Grey. To tie them in with the Marked Chariot, I also painted a small Mark of Nurgle on the hind of their barding, branding them servants of the Plague God.
